A storm named 'Juno'

I'm still in New York! I am packed and ready to go, heading back home to Edinburgh after a great 3 months hanging out with Chelie and the ever increasing baby bump! But a storm named 'Juno' has altered those plans somewhat. We where being warned to expect 3 feet of snow fall!
So I was booked to Leave Monday but thankfully the weather got worse before I even left for the airport! I hear a lot of passengers where left to stay over night at the airport. So I am still at home in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. I've packed and repacked. Its amazing what I pulled from my suitcase! There is no way I need summer clothes back in the UK and Ill be back here for summer! I'm a 'you never know' kind of gal! So I'm in Limbo and have nothing to do but wait for the airport to open and to finally get on flight!

I made a couple little video's above at the beginning of the bad weather. You can usually see the Manhattan Skye line from the kitchen window, but that day there was nothing but white!

Last minute love affair

Damn! Damn! Damn!
Of course a week before I leave New York I meet someone! Of course!
This is typical  of my life. I travel a lot so one thing that lacks in my life is a 'love life'. Yes in theory it seems awesome that I do travel a lot, even he was taken with this, but at some point the trip ends! It makes me think. Do I need to stop and settle in order to settle? Does the fact that I travel put men off? Its something to really think about. I met a great guy just before I left to go to New York , but it didn't stick as he didn't see how it could work. I guess hes right. I mean I was upset but how would it work? I always think if I fell in love I would settle in one place and be happy, but would I? Would I get itchy feet after a while?
So many questions!
I'm back in New York in May, and I'm sure we will keep in touch. Although four months is a long time apart and anything can happen.
Another one bites the dust?

A Vintage Goldmine

So the way I buy vintage is I guess the same way as a buyer  does for a store. I buy summer in winter and winter in summer. Don't get me wrong, I don't get it ALL, but its the best time to to grab a bargain. No one wants a winter coat in the summer, for a start its usually too hot to even think about trying on a coat or wool pants! Notice that fur coat that was $20 in summer hike up to $100 when it gets cold! The same goes for shorts and summer dresses etc, expect to see them in the bargain bins in summer. Check out whats coming up for the next season and plan ahead.
My favorite place to shop in New York is The Salvation Army warehouse in Bedstuy, Brooklyn.  You will find the store tucked away down the beautifully bright Quincy street (Where Biggie Smalls grew up no less, but that's a story for another day!).
Please note the first door the shutter is always down and may look to newbies that the store is closed, but walk a few more steps down and find the  second door, climb the stairs to the second floor, this is where you will find the gold! They do everything, clothing shoes, accessories, crockery, furniture and electrics.
So if you're  like me, go it alone. I can get mad crazy if someone finds an item I would have bought! I'm also pretty dedicated to looking through everything on the rails. People stash items they may want later in different place, I'm guilty of it myself. There's a Georgio Armani bubble coat hiding in there right now!
There is only one mirror in the building with a rail at the side for unwanted items. I always check that rail first. Trash to others can mean treasure to you!
When looking through always keep an open mind. Flared trousers can be brought in to make slim pants, long skirts can be made shorter, arms can be shortened, etc, you get the idea. If your handy with a needle and thread or a sewing machine, great! If not, find a tailor you can trust with the vision of of what you want and stick with them.
So my latest trip was for me. I am working on my wardrobe right now and have gone back to black.

E.D Michaels by Melanie Drucker dress
$15 it nips in nicely at the waist and it has pockets- Love a skirt/dress with pockets. Its worn with a lacey camisole underneath ($2) and black wedged ankle boots $13. A whole outfit for $30! Not bad!!

Ralph Lauren shirt for $5
Jacket £15
(Shelter
High waist black wool pants 3
(UK Vintage Store)
Shoes (right) Kurt Geiger £25(sale)
Shoes (left)  Topshop  £20  (sale)
Necklace H&M $1
Belt Primark, Black/Leopard print reversible £4
This Leopard print collar and cuff shift I bought for $15 its stunning but unfortunately it is too big,so once I'm back home in Scotland and unpack my sewing machine I'll do a "How to" Video tutorial on adjustments.

So that's one of my favourite New York hot spots. I will be covering London and Edinburgh soon with more tips on how to find a vintage bargain!
Thanks for reading!

Up, Up and away!

As I am far from home (Edinburgh) this Christmas my best friend invited me to California to spend the festive break with her and her family. Well you don't have to ask me twice to jump on a plane! So I only had 4 days break Chellie left for Cali before me. I took a flight myself to San Francisco to catch up with her later in the week. I love flying, I especially like to fly alone. I have a routine on long haul flights, plenty of water before boarding. I like to have a glasses of wine or two on my flight to relax and get into the holiday spirit. Just watch your alcohol intake on flights for many reasons. Firstly its going to mess you up (a hangover is worse in the air -trust me! Ha!) and secondly no cabin crew want to deal with annoying drunks, it their job to make sure you are safe not to deal with you plastered and have to clean you up. So that being said if you are going to drink, drink wisely and with plenty of water.
So this trip I flew United Airlines, the staff were super lovely. Ground and air crew where very friendly and helpful. I was even more happier that the beauties upgraded me to First Class!!! YES!!!
Glass of champers on arrival from Justine  (awesome lady) and I settled into my chair/bed excited for my now comfy flight. Once we were up and in the air and all freshened up with a hot cloth and settled, dinner was served. Smoked salmon to start then steak with potato dauphinoise, green beans and red wine sauce. I was surprised at how tasty and juicy the steak was.  Now I'm not a sweet person but who could resist at least trying some of the ice cream, especially when it came with a choice of toppings from the trolley! Fruits, nuts chocolates and sauces were on offer. I picked toffee sauce and strawberries, which I think Justine mistook my accent and I was given cherries, but I'm not mad, it  was still a delicious dessert.
After all that it was time for bed, before I got way to into the free flowing drinks. Never tell a Scot there's free drinks. Took ALL my will to put the ear buds in and  the mask on! Ha!I awoke 20 minutes before landing , given a hot towel to refresh sorted my face out and prepared for landing. Hoping this year brings me more luck in travel as  its going to be hard to go back to economy -thanks United!
When flying always dress comfortable and try to be smart.
This trip was short so I wore a Denim Jumper/Boilersuit. Probably not the best idea for travel, but you live and learn right? It was comfy and thats the main thing.
Jumper/Boilersuit PRIMARK - £15
